Mid Term Submission- No Trespassing

My partner and I used a lot of different angles and shots to fully show what was happening and the different emotions the characters were expressing. My partner and I chose to do a horror film because we both like the genre of film. Part of the film was shot in the woods, as a flashback to help explain what they went through. When a flashback is shown the filter is changed to show that the scene took place in the past. We edited the film so as the detective asked questions there was a flashback to help give context to what happened.The shots we picked were to show the characters emotions and reactions to what is happening in the scene.

After Filming

My partner and I ran into some problems while filming. One of the costume pieces was a fake mustache. The mustache was the wrong size for the actor so my partner and I used makeup instead. We filmed all of the shots we needed but, my partner and I  should have gotten extra shots just in case our film is too short. If needed my partner and I will call for a re-shoot to redo scenes or add any. The next step is to edit the film. Here are some pictures of us filming.

Schedule Filming

My partner and I are filming on December 8th from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Our goal is to finish filming in one day so that no one has to come back and shot again. The portions of the opening scene in the interrogation room my partner is filming and I am filming the exterior scenes. If needed my partner and I will call for a re-shot for scenes that we feel need to be redone or added.

Casting

Harper is a bossy girl how just moved from a big town and thinks she knows everything. Harper is also very adventurous. Malia is playing Harper because she has the city girl feeling when she acts and she is not afraid of getting caught.

Sarah is a very sensitive and shy person. Also she always follows the rules and grew up in a small town. Julia is playing Sarah because she has similar personality to Sarah, is a shy  and good at following rules.

Mia is Sarah's little sister, she is adventurous and follows the rules. If she does not think that someone is right she will say something. Ava is playing Mia because she is very adventurous, follows rules, and always speaks for what is right.

Detective Turner is a cop for a small town. Nothing ever happens so he mostly spends his time driving around and doing nothing. Dani is playing Detective Turner because she knows how to take control in a scene and has good chemistry with the other actors.

Scout Locations

This is the interrogation room. The police department is in a cabin by the woods in a small town.

Film Genre Research- Us

 In the opening credits viewers are given the company that produced the film, the editors, the music writer, the editor, and the director. The actors are also given but their characters are not. Incidental music plays over the credits. There are then close up shots on a rabbit's a face. Then there is a zoom out on rabbits in cages. There is then a cut to the title of the film as the incidental music suddenly gets louder.. Us had a budget of 20 million a USD and made 255.1 million USD. Us was nominated for many awards including MTV Movie Award (Best Villain, Best Movie, and Best Performance in a Movie), People Choice Award (Favorite Dramatic Movie, Favorite Movie Actress, Favorite Movie, and Dramatic Movie Star of the Year), and Bandung Film Festival (Imported Film).

Film Genre Research- Child's Play

When the opening credits start the company that produced the film and the director are given while incidental music is playing. Later in the opening scene the casting director, the editor, associate producer, costume designer, who wrote the music, production designer, executive producer, writer, and producer names are given.  In the scene a cop is trying to pursue a criminal. The criminal breaks into a toy shop. Then the actors names are given in the opening scene which has many insert shots of the chucky doll. There is a series of  close ups and eyeline matches as the two people react to what is happening in the scene. The sound is most dialogue and gunshots. There are also alarms going off as the two people are trying to catch each other. The budget for the film was 9 million USD and the film made 44 million USD. The film has been nominated for many awards including three Saturn Awards (Best Horror Film, Best Performance by a Young Actor/Actress, and Best Actress).

Film Genre Research- Zombieland

When the opening credits start the production company, the actors, the casting director, costume designer, the composer, editor, production designer, and the director of photography. There is incidental music playing while zombies are chasing people and trying to kill them in slow motion. Zombieland had a budget of 23.6 million USD and made 60.8 million USD. Zombieland was nominated for many awards including two MTV Movie Awards (Best Jaw Dropping Moment and Most Frightened Performance), two Teen Choice Awards (Movie Breakout Star-Male and Choice Movie Actress-Comedy), a Critics Choice Award (Best Comedy), and an Empire Award (Best Horror).

Film Genre Research- A Quiet Place

In the opening credits we are given the name of the film. The film starts with jumping to the surroundings of where the characters are. The town looks abandoned and from the shot of the missing posters viewers can infer that something bad has happened. There is not a lot of atmospheric sound, it is mostly the sound of the wind leaves flying and papers moving. There is a sequence of low angle shots of a child walk quietly in a store. There then is an over the shoulder shot following a boy to his family. The first two minutes creates suspense because the viewers do not know what is happening in the film but the characters do. A Quiet Place had a budget of 17 million USD and made 332 million USD. The film was also nominated for many awards including, People's Choice Award (Favorite Movie), Satellite Award (Best Sound), Screen Actors Guild Award (Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role), Critics' Choice Movie Award (Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie), and Bandung Film Festival (Imported Film).

Film Genre Research- Halloween

In the opening credits they give the company who produced the film and that actors name and who they play. Then the film gives the viewer the city and time of where the characters are. Then the camera panes to the outside of a house. There is a point of view shot that is being filmed with a handheld camera to give the effect of walking. We hear atmospheric sound from the environment. We also hear dialogue from two different people. In the first to minutes we see the outside of the house following the two people inside. Later there is a child's arm that reaches out for a kitchen knife. The film's budget was 325,000 USD and the movie made 47 million USD. The film was nominated for many awards including, a Saturn Award (Best Horror Film), a Critics Award (John  Carpenter), a Gold Hugo (Best Feature), and a New Generation Award(John Carpenter),

Project Selection-My Decision

I have decided to do the film project. I have more experience in film and believe that I will do a better job with the film. I have decided to also work with Keeley Clayton on the project. We both get our work done on time and have a passion for films. There are a couple of different ideas we would like to do for the film. We are thinking about doing a comedy or a horror film. The comedic film would be directed to a bigger audience because of the age appropriate humor. With the comedic film the script plays a big role in filming. If the scripted is not funny or relatable then the film will not be funny at all. With the horror film we would use the different effects of light to make the scene scary. Also we would use camera angles to hide people that are scaring the victims. The horror film will demonstrate our editing skills with our filming skills. We will both work on writing the script and editing. We will both have an influence in casting the film and we will take turns filming and directing.

Project Selection-Film

In middle school I took a class that taught me how to edit videos. I still use that skill now that I am in high school. In Inside Story: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I learned about the different ups and downs of the process of making a film. The process starts with writing a script. The script cannot be too long or the film will run over the time aloud to film. The next step is to choose the right actors to play the parts. The actors need to portray the characters so that they are brought to life. Then with filming I need to make sure to get all of the shots in the time I have to film and not call back for a reshoot. When editing the film cannot be too long if it is then some of the characters that are not needed could be cut.

Project Selection-Magazine

With what I have learned in class about print journalism, I can say that the magazine project is looking like a good choice. Magazines are a good way to show opinions and inform viewers about a certain topic area. The magazine project would be a nice way for me to demonstrate my ability to take pictures and write about a featured topic in the magazine. In All the President's Men Woodward and Bernstein fallowed the story until they got the truth of the matter. With the magazine I would make sure that there with be facet presented supported by evidence and sources, but not all magazines are truth full. In the Newsroom i learned that there is something called a take down piece. The take down piece talks about the hot gossip going on about someone's life. A downside to the magazine project is that some topics are going to have some bias in them. The ideal thing when writing about the news is to present the facts and not sway the reader to choose a side.
